Many cities and municipalities have started to record the amount of waste actually produced by individual consumers. The waste container is fitted with an RFID tag, which is read in the waste collection vehicle and thus records the weight of the waste garbage cans.

The associated ID code is transmitted to the waste vehicle's on-board computer via RFID and offset against the weight of the waste container. This data provides consumers with a precise overview of the amount of waste they produce.
